Popular Beaches in Kerala: Golden and Silver Beaches of God's Own Country


Being a coastal state Kerala is a paradise for beach lovers. The ancient land with some great history is blessed with golden and silver beaches and emerald backwaters. Alappuzha Beach: This beach is also called the Allepey Beach and is famous for a very old pier on the beach. The beach is easily accessible from Cochin airport. It is just 85 km from Cochin. You can reach there by train. Allepey is well connected via railways to different corners of the country. The beach is just 5 km from Allepey railway station. The Alappuzha beach has lots of attractions for tourists.

Kovalam Beach: This is another popular beach of Kerala and this has been the first beach destination for foreigners. You can go to Kovalam beach from Thiruvananthapuram via Kerala State Transport Bus Service. The beach is popular for water sports and ayurvedic massage clinics. If you are to Kerala a visit to this place is really worthy. Kovalam has crescent shaped beach and is divided into three parts. The northern beach is called the Northern Samudra. It is a place of laidback to forget you in the beauty of sea. The Southern part is called Lighthouse Beach which gives an amazing sight of Vizhinjam mosque. The middle beach is called the hawah.

Poovar Beach: This is an unexplored and un-spoilt island which is situated at the mouth of backwater and sea openings. The island has golden sand beach that acts as a great stress buster to tourists.

Varkala Beach: This beach is popular for a very old temple along the coast. The Janardan Swamay Temple is a holy place for local people. If you are to this beach you can witness different colorful events happening with pilgrims. The beach has gained momentum with ayurvedic clinics and resorts along the coast. The beach is just 57 kilometers from Thiruvanathapuram.

Fort Kochi beach and Cherai Beach: The two beaches of Cochin are ideal for enjoying the golden sand and refreshing sea waters. The lovely beaches are idyllic for swimming, sun bathing and enjoying the setting sun. The beaches are lined by tall, gorgeous coconut acting as icing on the cake. There are lots of European style bungalows along the shore of the sea. Luxurious resorts near the beaches increase the pleasure of your stay in the place.

Kappad Beach: This historic beach is the place where Vasco da Gama landed and opened new chapter in history bridging the gap between west and east. The interesting feature of the beach is the sprawing rock that obtrudes into the sea and the old temple over the rock.
