Thiruvananthapuram: The City of Snake God


Thiruvananthapuram is the capital city of Kerala which is situated almost at the tip of the state in the southern part. The city is a good example of blend of traditional and modern architecture. The city is built on seven hills and is named after the fabled Snake God 'Anantha.' Due to its closeness to sea the climate of Thiruvananthapuram is always pleasant and provides a warm weather to visitors during winters. The best time to enjoy the climate of this city is during the Monsoons. The Monsoons starts in the month of May and remains nearly till the end of October. How to get there?

By Air: The International Airport of Thiruvananthapuram is just 6 kilometers from the heart of the city. The airport has links with different countries and cities within India. You can take direct flights from Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore, Delhi and other major cities.

By Rail: Thiruvananthapuram is one of the largest railway terminuses in the South and train services connect the city from almost all parts of the country.

By Road: The capital is well connected to major cities in the state and neighboring states. The city links via road to other major tourist destinations in the state as well as neighboring states as well.

Places of Attraction

Padmanabhaswami Temple: A very important temple for Vaishnavites in India. This is one of the 108 sacred shrines of them. The temple has main pavilion made of 400 beautifully carved granite pillars and a 100 feet welcome gopuram.

Boat ride in Backwaters: Your trip to Kerala or Thiruvananthapuram is curtailed without a boat ride on the enchanting backwaters. You will be seduced of the panoramic beautiful landscapes, coconut palm plantations, paddy fields, and floating homes as you move swiftly through the water.

Shankhumuggam: Witness the architecture of ancient Indian and their lovely carvings on rock and granite. The place has some lovely temples with a huge statue of mermaid in the village.

Kovalam Beach: The beach is just 18 kilometers away from Thiruvananthapuram. This is one of the finest beaches in the world that provides ideal atmosphere for holidaying. Go for water skiing, swimming, snorkeling and other activities in this pleasant beach.
