Kasargod: The Land of Flowing Rivers


Kasargod is the northern district in Kerala which is bounded by Western Ghats in the east and Arabian Sea in the west. The place has 12 rivers flowing across its land and such gift of nature provides the place an enchanting beauty in Nature. Kasargod is not only a land of panoramic sights and natural beauty; it is a land of Churches, Temples and Mosques; a land of rich cultural heritage and famous for the art forms like Bombe-yattu, Yakshangana and Theyyam. The various traditional art forms of the place include Pulikkali, Oppana and other festivals.

Reaching Kasargod:

The nearest airport is at Khozikhode in Kerala. You can also enter Kasargod via Mangalore air port which is in Karnataka. The place is well connected by railways and roadways. You can also take water transport from other places in Kerala like Kannur and Madekeri.

Places of Interest

Bakel Fort: The fort is situatued just 16 kilometers from Kasargod. This is 300 years old fort and is one of the best preserved large forts in Kerala. The circular structure rises above 130 ft above sea level and covers around 35 acres of land. The headland of the fort runs into Arabian Sea. You can hire a taxi or take Kerala State Transport Bus to this Fort. It seems as the fort is built up from the surface of sea because the exterior of the fort at one side is drenched by waters and the waves hit the citadel with full force.

Pallikere Beach: If you are to Kerala who one boundary is completely shore line, you can expect wonderful beaches in almost every place. The Pallikere Beach in Kasargod is a spectacular beach for tourists with complete facilities for recreation and relaxation.

Malik Deenar Mosque: The place has great impact of Muslim art and literature. The place is a considerable centre for religious studies and other typical Muslim activities. The Deenar Mosque is a tourist attraction because of its beauty, style of creation and foundation.

Kappil Beach: This is a wide beach which is just 10 km from Kasargod. The beach provides lots of attractions and recreational activities for visitors. The Kodi cliff near the beach is an impressive front to view the blue sky burying in the horizon of water and rolling sands long towards the coastline.

Anandasaram: This is a very famous spiritual centre founded by Swami Ramdas in 1939. Today it is not only a spiritual place but a place of solace and quietness for visitors. The perfect place for meditation and spiritual studies is well equipped for visitors to sit and feel oneself in the tranquillity.

Valiaparamba: One of the best scenic backwaters stretch in Kerala. The water is fed by four major rivers in the place and dotted by several small and beautiful islands. The attraction offers backwater resorts with complete package of enchanting water sports, cruises and other funs.

Chandragiri Fort: If you are to Kasargod, don't miss this fort in Chandragiri. Situated at bank of the Chandragiri River, the fort offers visitors wonderful scenic beauty view of the Arabian Sea and winding Chandragiri River. This is a vintage point to watch the sunset. A perfect place of peace and tranquillity!
